A Walk to Livadia

I'm just going to think about Tuesday.

Yesterday, Friday, it rained all day. I walked to Ayios Andonis in the afternoon and got soaked to the skin. Lisa and I don't mind a bit of rain, but even she baulked at the big, driving hailstones and we had to take shelter. Today it's sunny but there's a sharp, strong wind blowing that almost brought me to a standstill on the way back from Eristos. We're settled in front of the heater for the night. But Tuesday... Tuesday was beautiful. And since I had to visit the ATM anyway, I took the afternoon off and walked in shorts and t-shirt to Livadia. I saw almond blossoms, wild cyclamen, an eagle... And of course, I went for a swim.

Sofia decided to give up running the kafeneion in Megalo Horio this winter, and it's been taken over by the Hatzifountas brothers from En Plo, who have changed things a little and put in a wood-burner for winter. They're also offering food now. I've been there twice with friends this week, feeling very lucky that we have another great place to go out for a drink and meze in the evening - a little plate of octopus with your ouzo, if you like.

Finally, some photos of Ayios Andonis in a mixture of clouds and sunshine early this week, with the fishermen pulling in nets.

  1. Thanks for the blog Jennifer.
Bit of a Grecophile, maybe from a previous life, so it's always nice to hear about life 1900 miles away from Cheshire.
It's always good to see another posting after reading your books.

  3. Nice to see signs of spring. Good to know that the eagles are back. Have they returned to the same crag? Look forward to seeing them.

    1. Nice to think it's spring... The wind feels like it's blowing down from Siberia today, but those flowers are a reminder that spring is coming!

  7. That kafeneion looks just like Greek kafeneions should look! I'd call in there like a shot! Thanks for the beautiful photographs, its nice to see somewhere where Spring has spring, even if its a wee bit wintry here! ;) And Lisa is a truly lovely dog. How old is she now - she looks to be in the prime of life and up for anything. Especially it it involves food? I don't think we will ever get back to Greece again, to my intense sorrow - old age seems to have crept up behind us without me noticing, and has now come round to the front and said "Boo!" So your pics keep me happy for a while!

    1. It is nice to have some sunshine and warm weather and flowers here, even though I'd definitely hesitate to call it spring just yet! Lisa's three years old now and she loves her walks, beaches and yes, food... Sorry to hear you don't think you'll be back to Greece but better to enjoy yourselves close to home - and I hope you'll continue to enjoy the photos. Have been working hard again this month but must get out and about again soon with my camera and notebook...
